For and Against Irish Unity
On March 18, 2026, the Irish Institute welcomed renowned
journalists Fintan O'Toole and Sam McBride to Boston College for a discussion of their recently published book, For and Against a United Ireland (2026, Notre Dame Press). The volume was commissioned by ARINS (Analysing and Researching Ireland North and South), a joint partnership between the University of Notre Dame and the Royal Irish Academy. In this compelling exchange, O'Toole andMcBride presented arguments both for and against Irish unity.

In this Irish Institute lecture, Brendan O'Leary, Lauder Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania, examined the political relationships linking Ireland, Irish America, and the United States, with particular attention to the Northern Ireland peace process and the sources of sustained American engagement.
Ireland and the US: 100 years of diplomatic relations
As the centenary year of US-Irish diplomatic relations nears
its end, Ambassador Byrne Nason reflected on the past, present and future relationship between Ireland and the US. The Ambassador’s visit also marked there-launch of the Irish Institute of Boston College.
